At Berkeley, Olivia explored Public Health through her coursework and through her work in a student-run clinic, the Suitcase Clinic, as well as through advising on-campus health policy. She worked as a Wellness Coordinator for the clinic, providing mental health first aid to unhoused members of the Berkeley community. She also worked alongside UC Berkeley administrators to edit Title IX policies and host events to protect sexual health on campus.
After graduating from UC Berkeley, Olivia gained experience in the field by conducting infectious disease surveillance research for the California Emerging Infections Program in the Bay Area. Her contributions demonstrated her ability to apply her knowledge and skills to real-world public health challenges. Additionally, Olivia contributed to COVID-19 population health research for the CDC on a national scale.
At the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine, Olivia has continued to pursue her academic interests through research and quality improvement projects. Her work covers a wide range of topics, including housing access, hepatitis C screening, health insurance for undocumented communities, and blood pressure control. After college, Oresta earned a Master’s in physician assistant studies from Rutgers University, one of the nation’s top-ranked PA programs. She was awarded the prestigious National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship, which, upon graduation, allowed her to give back to an underserved health professional shortage area (HPSA) in Bronx, NY. She spent nearly four years practicing family medicine there, deepening her commitment to community care and expanding her skill set in both dermatology and surgery. She also volunteered with Waves of Health on a medical mission trip to provide primary care to the remote pediatric and adult population of the Dominican Republic.
Currently, Oresta serves as a dermatology PA-C at Metro Dermatology. Her previous roles include working as a school-based PA at Morris Heights Health Center and as a family medicine PA-C at Urban Health Plan. Alongside her clinical work, she precepts PA students and is actively involved in research, including co-authorship on a published cardioprotection study.
Her mentorship journey began with her participation in the Physician Assistant Shadowing Program (PASSPoRT) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Before matriculating at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS), he obtained a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Rutgers University. While in medical school, he was a student doctor at the Promise Clinic, providing care for uninsured patients in the local community. He has also published manuscripts and presented his work at both national and international conferences. This summer, he will be starting his residency in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
He previously worked for the Princeton Review, tutoring students on the SAT and MCAT. He has also tutored inmates, who were on track to be released, for the GED at a correctional facility during college and helped to coordinate the mentorship program between masters’ students in the Biomedical Sciences program, which is like a post-baccalaureate program for students who desire a health professional career, and 1st-year medical students at Rutgers RWJMS.

Dr. Mercado is a board-certified ophthalmologist, bringing expertise in pediatric and comprehensive ophthalmology to her mentor and admissions consultant role. Dr. Munoz played competitive softball for more than 10 years and still plays recreationally. She enjoys spending time reading, cooking, going to concerts, gardening, and training her doberman.
Dr. Munoz attended Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine before becoming a resident at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. With over 10 years of experience in advising and tutoring students and five years in selecting, interviewing, and ranking applicants for medical school and residency. She currently sits on the admissions committee for the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency Program at the University of Wisconsin.
Dr. Munoz graduated summa cum laude from California State University San Marcos with a BS in biology and a minor in chemistry after being recruited to play softball for the university before attending Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Her impressive performance during the residency application process led to more than 20 interviews in her chosen specialty of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Ultimately, Dr. Munoz matched at a top 10 program in the country for this specialty, the University of Wisconsin, where she worked towards a fellowship in microsurgical reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Munoz's passion for advising and working with students stems from her own experiences and challenges throughout medical school and residency application processes. As the first in her family to graduate with a college degree, she overcame numerous obstacles in the preparation for and admission to medical school and residency, from which she learned immensely. This personal journey has fueled her desire to make the process more streamlined, straightforward, efficient, and successful for future students. She draws on her extensive training in communication, teaching, and leadership to guide students with clarity and confidence.
Dr. Munoz’s 10+ years of extensive mentoring and admissions experience have provided her with insider tips for the admissions process from the perspective of admissions committees, which she is excited to share with aspiring medical professionals. She takes a flexible and student-centered approach, adapting quickly to each student’s needs and adjusting plans as necessary.
