Dr. Mellacheruvu is a resident physician at Penn Medicine. He serves on the Resident Steering Committee where he collaborates with faculty and program directors to shape the residency experience. Dr. Mellacheruvu has extensive mentorship in helping students craft meaningful medical school applications; he has also acted as an MCAT, USMLE, and college-level STEM course tutor.
Prior to medical school, he graduated from the University of Washington with dual credentials in biochemistry and interdisciplinary honors, balancing academic excellence with athletic pursuits. He was consistently recognized on the Dean's List during his undergraduate years.
Dr. Mellacheruvu earned his MD from the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University, where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism and Honor Society and recognized as a finalist in the American Medical Association's Top 50 Research Showcase. During his clinical rotations, he developed a particular interest in cardiology that continues to shape his career trajectory.
Throughout medical school, Dr. Mellacheruvu demonstrated his commitment to advocacy and research. He became involved with national advocacy through the American College of Physicians, working to promote the interests of internal medicine physicians and their patients. Simultaneously, he participated in cardiometabolic research collaborations with teams at institutions such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Duke University, Northwestern University, the University of Washington, and the University of Pennsylvania.
With years of tutoring experience, Dr. Mellacheruvu has guided several students through their academic and professional journeys. Students under his guidance have boosted their MCAT scores by an average of 9 points, and USMLE Step 2 scores by an average of 15 points. Dr. Mellacheruvu is an experienced tutor ready to help students ace the MCAT or pass the USMLE Step exams.
