Dr. Wu’s journey through medicine began early, marked by sustained academic excellence and leadership. He was awarded the National Merit Scholarship at Copper Union, where he began successfully mentoring high school students towards acceptance into competitive BS/MD programs. He also completed an MBA in healthcare management, bringing a systems-level perspective to medical education and career planning. He went on to earn his MD from Albany Medical College, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and earned the Class of ‘77 and Wiggers Endowed Scholarships.
Throughout medical school, Dr. Wu was deeply involved in admissions, mentorship, and student leadership. As a member of the Accelerated Program Ranking Committee, he gained first-hand insight into how accelerated program admissions committees assess academic readiness, maturity, motivation, and long-term fit for medicine. In addition to his admissions work, Dr. Wu has held numerous leadership roles, including work in addiction medicine, student representation in professional societies, and patient counseling, where he trained peers in motivational interviewing and patient-centered communication. He is also an accomplished academic writer, with multiple peer-reviewed publications and national conference presentations, reflecting his strength in clear, precise, and persuasive written communication.
Throughout his academic journey, Dr. Wu also consistently demonstrated excellence and leadership, mentoring multiple high school students toward acceptance into competitive BS/MD programs, including Boston University’s SMED program and the University of Toledo BACC2MD program. With several years of experience, he has a deep understanding of what BS/MD and medical programs seek in successful applicants.
As a counselor, Dr. Wu combines insider admissions experience with a genuine commitment to mentorship. He is known for his thoughtful, transparent approach and his ability to help students articulate their stories with clarity and, most importantly, authenticity. His goal is not only to help students earn admission but also to equip them with the confidence, clarity, and perspective needed to succeed in the rigorous path to becoming a physician. Dr. Wu strongly believes that successful BS/MD applicants must be presented as whole people, not just “future doctors.” He takes the time to understand each student’s background, motivations, and values, helping them craft applications that are compelling, polished, and true to who they are.
