Merna is a passionate and accomplished healthcare professional with a diverse academic background and a strong commitment to patient care, education, and research. At Fairleigh Dickinson University, she had the opportunity to publish her research in collaboration with the Waksman Institute at Rutgers University, focusing on duckweed (Landoltia punctata) cDNA and mRNA sequencing. During her gap year, Merna's dedication to serving others led her to join a UK-based charity aimed at providing dental aid in high-need areas around the world. As part of this initiative, she participated in a mission trip to underserved communities in Egypt, where she worked tirelessly to provide dental care to those in need. Additionally, Merna secured a position as a research assistant at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, further expanding her knowledge and skills in the field of dentistry.
Merna’s outstanding academic achievements have been recognized through two prestigious scholarships, underscoring her dedication to excellence and lifelong learning. In addition to her academic and professional pursuits, she is an active member of Mobile Smiles Dentistry, a non-profit organization committed to providing dental care to underserved communities. Through this initiative, she has contributed to improving oral healthcare access and promoting wellness among vulnerable populations.

Since high school, she has actively tutored newcomers at her church, helping them navigate their academic journeys. She continued tutoring throughout her undergraduate and graduate studies, specializing in subjects such as biology, chemistry, and healthcare sciences.
