Dr. Nwankwo is a physical medicine & rehabilitation (PM&R) resident at Baylor College of Medicine and plans to pursue a pain medicine fellowship. She completed the combined BA/MD program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine, earning a degree in biology and chemistry, and graduating with departmental distinction in academic excellence from the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences. She served on admissions committees at both UMKC and her residency program at Baylor.
Dr. Nwankwo received numerous undergraduate offers, including acceptances from Yale, Harvard, and Penn, but ultimately chose UMKC for its accelerated medical program. She went on to earn her MD from UMKC and has maintained a longstanding commitment to academic excellence and leadership throughout her education. She was a leader in multiple organizations in medical school at the local, regional, and national levels.
Throughout her training, Dr. Nwankwo has been an active clinical researcher and presenter. She has delivered posters and podium presentations at the Texas Pain Society Annual Meeting and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP) conference, exploring topics such as combination closed-loop and dorsal root ganglion stimulation for cancer-related pain, scrambler therapy for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, and temporary peripheral nerve stimulation for greater occipital neuralgia. She also serves as co-investigator on a multicenter trial evaluating novel neuromodulation devices in oncology rehabilitation.
Dr. Nwankwo brings firsthand experience from serving in decision-making roles on admissions committees at UKMC and Baylor. Dr. Nwankwo specializes in an individualized coaching style, helping students identify their unique stories, build strategic timelines, and develop compelling application materials for medical school. As a physician, educator, and mentor, Dr. Nwankwo is deeply passionate about equity in medicine and empowering the next generation of healthcare leaders through thoughtful, strategic guidance.
