Dr. Bartholomew's journey began at Ohio State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in agriculture (animal sciences) with a minor in neuroscience, graduating magna cum laude with Honors Research Distinction. She was involved in numerous extracurricular activities, including serving as Vice President and President of the Pre-Veterinary Medical Association, tutoring and advising students, and participating in two international research internships. One took place in South Africa, where she worked with great white sharks, seals, dolphins, and other cetaceans, and the other took place in South America, where she provided spay/neuter and other veterinary wellness services to underserved communities. She also received the CFAES Outstanding Senior Award and was an American Society of Animal Sciences Undergraduate Scholar.
At Ohio State's veterinary school, Dr. Bartholomew demonstrated her leadership through roles such as President of her class, participation in student organizations, and involvement in research culminating in a first-author publication. She received the SAVMA Senior Service Award and the Gertrude Hoeger Award in Clinical Biomedical Research. She was an active member of organizations, such as VCA, VIDA, and VetPrep, where she interviewed candidates and participated in new student orientation.
Dr. Bartholomew’s passion for leadership and service continued with a nomination to attend the Veterinary Leadership Institute’s Veterinary Leadership Experience (VLE), an organization dedicated to facilitating the growth of servant leaders within the veterinary profession. With a passion for travel and service, Dr. Bartholomew went to Thailand to study elephants and their cultural importance to the country.
After graduating magna cum laude with her DVM, Dr. Bartholomew pursued mixed animal practice in rural Pennsylvania and participated as a veterinarian for the Willow 300 Sled Dog Race. She has also written a chapter for the Five Minute Consult and continues to participate in Ohio State's file review process and the Veterinary Leadership Institute's Veterinary Leadership Experience.
In her current role at Veterinary Referral Center Malvern, Dr. Batholomew is an associate emergency veterinarian, Director of the ER Immerse Program, and the Externship Coordinator. These roles and her time serving on the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine admissions committee have provided her with keen insights into how applicants can stand out and present their best selves to top vet schools.
Dr. Bartholomew is dedicated to helping new veterinarians grow and thrive, and she extends this same commitment to aspiring applicants. She enjoys guiding individuals through the admissions process in a way that feels manageable, attainable, and empowering. Her strengths as a coach include helping candidates with self-exploration to develop the most compelling application and encouraging them to maintain mental health while pursuing their passions.
As an admissions counselor, Dr. Bartholomew combines her enthusiasm for mentoring with a holistic approach to guiding students toward their goals. She provides a structured plan for success while fostering a deep understanding of each applicant's unique attributes and desires. Her approach is grounded in genuine support and connection, ensuring that each individual receives tailored guidance that empowers them throughout the admissions process.
