As a child, Nathaniel had a fascination with the sciences and spent a lot of his time caught up in books on space, biology, and chemistry. He eventually took this passion to Azusa Pacific University, taking part in undergraduate research under Dr. Kevin Huang, an accomplished organic chemist with ground-breaking publications on the chemical backbones of proteins. During college, Nathaniel was accepted to a volunteer position at COPE Health Scholars, a nationwide organization dedicated to excellence in patient care and the pursuit of educating the next generation of health care professionals. In definitive hospital observation units, Nathaniel developed an appreciation for patient care. At Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Nathaniel pursues his passion for whole-person care while publishing under well-renowned researchers in neuro-ophthalmology.
Throughout his educational career, Nathaniel has accumulated much experience in teaching and coaching. Throughout high school, Nathaniel participated in local tutoring organizations like Young Leaders of Orange County to provide free tutoring services to socioeconomically challenged children. In his undergraduate years, he began a private tutoring business that helped countless students excel in tough topics like AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and pre-algebra. At Loma Linda, Nathaniel continues to participate in advising and tutoring organizations.
Nathaniel's personal tutoring style involves a case-based learning process that emphasizes practice questions to solidify concepts. Students he has tutored raise their MCAT scores by 5 points on average. Nathaniel’s personal belief is that the best way to study for an exam is to take many exams. In other words, practicing in the style of the MCAT is the best way to learn and succeed in the exam. In addition to focusing on questions, he offers didactic-based sessions on high-yield topics to hone in on concepts most likely to appear on test day.
