Jacob B.

At the University of Pittsburgh, Jacob led organic chemistry recitations as a TA to his peers with fully customized lessons and instruction. He also provided private tutoring to other students preparing for university tests or other professional exams, such as the MCAT. Jacob also contributed to neurocognitive research in Pitt’s Affective Neuroscience and Developmental Psychology Research Lab. 

Following graduation, Jacob pivoted to pursue his passion for education via nonprofit management while expanding his technical teaching and writing to professional MCAT curriculum development. Taking an interest in systems engineering and automation, Jacob completed a software development bootcamp, leading to a successful five-year career in technology engineering. Even in his current role at the Bank of New York Mellon, Jacob leads his department in knowledge-sharing strategies and staff capacity building, a testament to his innate gift for teaching.

Jacob is a lifelong learner with a continuous track record of exceptional, personalized teaching and tutoring. His strategic approach to learning helped him achieve a top MCAT score, which is reflected in his tutoring style. By using research-backed approaches such as the Leitner Method and emphasizing recall memory over recognition, Jacob prepares students to understand content deeply while connecting it to personal interests and adjacent MCAT topics to build a strong semantic web of understanding. 

Jacob strongly believes that the MCAT is just as much a test of focus and resiliency as it is content, and enjoys leveraging students’ curiosity to help them reason through difficult analyses.
