Dr. DePalo’s higher education journey began at Boston College, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude with a degree in biology. He served as the President of the Boston College Pre-Dental Society, through which he founded a local oral health education program. His engagement in service extended beyond the field of oral health and across campus. He was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society and the Order of the Cross and Crown, distinctions given to students demonstrating exceptional leadership, academic excellence, and records of service on campus. Upon graduating, Dr. DePalo was also awarded the Matthew R. Copithorne Scholarship, given to a Boston College senior exhibiting qualities of character, industry, and intelligence who plans to pursue graduate studies at Harvard or MIT.
During his undergraduate studies, Dr. DePalo was involved in various biopharmaceutical research projects with several biotechnology companies. He had several mentors and advisors who inspired him to make education an integral part of his career. To this day, these mentors continue to inspire his growth as an educator.
At the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Dr. DePalo conducted research on oral graft-versus-host disease and was awarded multiple distinctions for his academic excellence and community involvement. Dr. DePalo’s honors include the ADEA/GlaxoSmithKline Preventive Dentistry Scholarship, the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation Dental Student Scholarship, and induction into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. He graduated cum laude from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine with Honors in research.
Following dental school, Dr. DePalo completed his residency in pediatric dentistry and earned an MS at the Ohio State University/Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where he was named Chief Resident. His Master’s thesis on silver diamine fluoride earned him the Sunstar Clinical Research Award, the Delta Dental Foundation Master’s Thesis Award, and the Sunstar/AAPD Post-Graduate Research Fellowship. He also received the Dr. Paul E. Boyle Award for excellence in oral pathology and the AAPD Predoctoral Student Award for promise in the field of pediatric dentistry.
Dr. DePalo is deeply passionate about preparing the next generation of dental professionals. As a former resident advisor for undergraduates, DMD, MD, and PhD students, Dr. DePalo has vast experience as a mentor. He understands and respects the uniqueness of every applicant and takes pride in helping students make this the foundation of their application.
Dr. DePalo’s consulting style is warm and welcoming, adapted to the needs of each applicant, and promotes the well-being of the student. He strives to make each interaction goal-oriented and informative, while ultimately helping applicants navigate the nuances of dental school admissions.
