Dr. Agapis is a globally trained veterinarian, educator, and admissions mentor with over a decade of experience in clinical medicine, academic leadership, and veterinary education. She holds a DVM from the University of Thessaly Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Greece and a Master’s in veterinary medical sciences from the University of Florida, along with a graduate certificate in veterinary public health. She is board-eligible in both shelter medicine and preventive medicine.
She previously served as faculty at the University of Illinois, where she held multiple key roles including Coordinator of the Junior Surgery Program, Head of the Shelter Medicine Service, and Coordinator of the International Programs. During her tenure, she was repeatedly recognized for excellence in teaching, earning the Dr. Erwin Small Teaching Award and being named to the “Teachers Ranked as Excellent” list for three consecutive years. She also secured several grants to launch impactful community programs such as the Community Medicine Program, Community Cat Days, and Semi-Annual Shelter Training Seminars.
Now based in Greece, Dr. Agapis is the Founder and Head Veterinarian of AgapiVet, a full-service veterinary clinic she established on the island of Rhodes. The clinic began as a collaborative site for international spay-neuter missions and has since expanded to serve local families and pets through community outreach and mentorship. She also serves as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Missouri, teaching in their online veterinary Master’s and technologist programs.
Dr. Agapis takes a nurturing yet strategic approach to coaching, viewing herself as a cultivator of potential. She believes in planting seeds of knowledge, nurturing students’ confidence, and equipping them to grow into competent, compassionate veterinary professionals. Her coaching focuses on authenticity, reflection, and long-term success, whether it’s helping students find their “why,” perfect their interview responses, or crafting a standout application that highlights their story and strengths.
Dr. Agapis brings real-world insight, a global perspective, and a genuine passion for mentoring the next generation of DVMs as a practicing veterinarian, educator, and clinic owner. Whether students are just starting their pre-vet journey or preparing applications for the next cycle, Dr. Agapis is ready to help them thrive.
