Dr. Parsons brings a wealth of academic and professional experience to aspiring medical students. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, graduating with honors and selection into the prestigious AOA honor society. His journey began at the University of Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology with a minor in cellular biology while excelling as a letterman on the football team and consistently earning SEC Academic honors.
Dr. Parsons' passion for medicine and mentoring was ignited through his diverse experiences. After his undergraduate studies, he worked as a Lead Exercise Physiologist at Delta Air Lines, directing their summer internship program. This experience inspired him to pursue a Master of Science in medical physiology from Case Western Reserve University, where he served as an academic advisor for students completing their master’s degree and applying to medical school.
His commitment to diversity in medicine is evident in his efforts to revive and grow his campus chapter of the Student National Medical Association at the Medical College of Georgia. As president, he partnered with the Minority Student Science Association, the school’s largest pre-medical minority student organization. He organized mentoring sessions on MCAT prep, AMCAS applications, and scheduled in-person tours of the medical school to show minority students a path to success.
Dr. Parsons' academic achievements further exemplify his excellence. He was selected for multiple honor societies, including Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi, and received numerous awards. His research contributions, particularly in orthopedic spine patient-reported outcome measures, resulted in over 50 publications, podium presentations, and posters by the end of medical school.
As a counselor, Dr. Parsons excels in providing comprehensive guidance to students at various stages of their medical journey. His approach to medical school admissions counseling is meticulous and strategic, focusing on building strong professional relationships with students and highlighting their strengths. His experience on admissions committees and collaborations with admissions counselors have given him insider strategies for what medical schools seek in candidates, allowing him to provide tailored advice to aspiring physicians.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Parsons demonstrates a genuine passion for guiding students. He approaches each interaction with openness and eagerness to learn about the students he works with, recognizing that the journey to medical school is as much about personal growth as academic achievement. His diverse background, from athletics to corporate experience to medical practice, allows him to offer different perspectives.
Dr. Parsons continues to balance his career as an orthopedic surgery resident with his commitment to mentoring. He strives to help eager students advance their professional aspirations, working tirelessly to assist them in achieving their academic and career dreams in the field of medicine.
