Born and raised in Connecticut, Dr. Loughran earned her BS in biology at Sacred Heart University, laying the foundation for her future in veterinary medicine. During and after her undergraduate studies, Dr. Loughran gained experience in the equestrian world, teaching horseback riding lessons and riding at various barns throughout Fairfield County. Her interest in veterinary medicine was solidified through her role as a surgery and anesthesia technician at a small animal referral hospital, where she enjoyed watching and scrubbing in for orthopedic surgeries.
Before attending veterinary school, Dr. Loughran completed a summer externship at a local private zoological conservation center and spent numerous hours riding in the equine ambulatory truck, gaining hands-on experience in equine medicine.
During veterinary school, Dr. Loughran was awarded the Dean's Achievement Award every year, demonstrating her academic excellence and dedication to her studies. After completing her studies, Dr. Loughran moved back East to complete an equine veterinary internship and equine surgery residency.
As a mentor, Dr. Loughran brings her blend of equine experience, veterinary knowledge, and passion for mentorship to guide aspiring veterinary students through the application process. Her strengths include crafting the quintessential personal statement and developing the communication skills necessary to prepare students for any interview question that may come their way.
