Originally from Los Angeles, Dr. Benjamin began her academic journey with a BS in animal and poultry sciences from Tuskegee University. She holds a DVM from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she also earned a Master’s in veterinary science, focusing on immunology and pathobiology. During her graduate studies, she collaborated with the USDA’s Aquatic Animal Health Research division, further cementing her foundation in public health and veterinary research. A passionate and highly experienced veterinarian, Dr. Benjamin is committed to exceptional care for her patients and the aspiring professionals she mentors.
Dr. Benjamin began her post-graduate career with the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service as a Supervisory Public Health Veterinarian. In this role, she conducted inspections, led foreign animal disease surveillance efforts, enforced animal welfare laws, and upheld federal inspection procedures. She later transitioned into small animal practice, initially as a relief veterinarian and ultimately as a full-time clinician, where she cultivated her hallmark approach to building strong, trust-based relationships between pets, their families, and veterinary care teams.
Dr. Benjamin served as Chief of Staff at Banfield Pet Hospital for five years, where she skillfully guided teams and streamlined clinical operations. She went on to serve as an associate veterinarian at Abby Pet Hospital and currently works as the Medical Director of Westchester Veterinary Center & Cat Clinic, combining her clinical expertise with strong managerial acumen. Dr. Benjamin is very passionate about delivering high-quality veterinary care, improving animal health and welfare, and supporting the veterinary community.
Dr. Benjamin has core competencies in preventative health, emergency, oncology, and surgery, as well as attention to detail, professional skills, and professional communication. Her approach to consulting is flexible and advisory, allowing her to adapt to changes and gently guide students toward crafting the best vet school application possible. She is a patient and friendly counselor, ready to help students get accepted to their dream schools.
