Dr. Allen is a practicing general dentist and educator with nearly 40 years of experience in dentistry and dental education. A graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dr. Allen earned a DDS before completing a residency in hospital dentistry at the same institution and a fellowship in dental anesthesiology at New York Medical College. He also serves on the admissions committees at Roseman University College of Dental Medicine, having evaluated more than 500 applicants.
Before pursuing dental school, Dr. Allen attended the University of Utah on an athletic and academic scholarship and pursued pre-dental studies. He then transferred to the University of Texas to complete pre-dental studies and was accepted to UT Health San Antonio. After completing his residency, he went on to practice general and hospital dentistry in San Antonio.
During his time practicing in San Antonio, Dr. Allen also had an adjunct faculty appointment at the dental school in San Antonio in the Department of Hospital Dentistry. After several years practicing in San Antonio, Dr. Allen returned to Salt Lake City and opened a dental practice. Currently, he serves as an assistant professor at Roseman University College of Dental Medicine. As an admissions committee member, he is a reviewer, interviewer, and decision-maker, having evaluated over 500 applications and interviewed more than 100 candidates.
Dr. Allen is deeply involved in helping shape the next generation of dentists through his teaching, admissions leadership, and mentorship. He lectures nationally on practice management and long-term success strategies for new dental school graduates, and on the American Heart Association, Healthy Smiles Healthy Hearts initiative on blood pressure screening in dental practice settings, of which he also co-authored. Dr. Allen also owns and operates his own private dental practice.
As an admissions coach, Dr. Allen leverages his mentorship and teaching experience to build meaningful connections with dental applicants. He is adept at identifying key attributes that contribute to shaping a comprehensive and competitive application, drawing from his firsthand knowledge of the admissions process and his experience working with a diverse range of candidates.
