Dr. Seger pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinary researcher at Kansas State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in animal sciences and industry with an equine certificate. She was accepted into Kansas State’s Early Admission Program to veterinary school during her undergraduate studies.
While pursuing her DVM, she was accepted into a dual-degree program and completed a PhD in diagnostic medicine and pathobiology. Her dissertation focused on contact network and agent-based modeling approaches for quantifying E. coli transmission in commercial US feedlot systems. During her graduate programs, Dr. Seger also participated in multiple externships at the Kansas Department of Agriculture and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, working on both the CDC teams for Rabies and enteric zoonotic disease outbreaks. To further expand her expertise, Dr. Seger will soon begin an anatomical pathology residency at Iowa State University Diagnostic Laboratory.
In addition to her research pursuits, Dr. Seger is deeply committed to supporting individuals on their paths to veterinary school, graduate programs, or dual-degree tracks. During her own academic journey, the guidance of mentors and professionals played a pivotal role in her success—an experience that inspires her to pay it forward. She takes a holistic approach to admissions counseling, thoughtfully considering each student’s background, goals, and vision for their future. Dr. Seger believes every applicant brings unique experiences that have prepared them for a career in veterinary medicine, and she is dedicated to providing steady, compassionate guidance through the challenges of the application process and beyond.
