Undergrad: Stanford University
Mark has experience tutoring students in numerous disciplines, including writing, math, and science. He has taught students of all ages from elementary school to college, both online and in person. He enjoys watching students grow academically and personally over time, and values the impact he can make on their education.
Mark was recruited to be an NCAA Division I gymnast at Stanford University and helped lead his team to five national championship titles in a row, a historic streak that only one team had ever accomplished before. Individually, he also became a three-time All-American on the rings and earned multiple national distinctions, including College Sports Communicators’ Division I Student-Athlete At-Large Team Member of the Year, and was awarded the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
At Stanford, Mark was involved in research through the Barnes Lab. His project, which he continued throughout his undergraduate years, focused on designing a minimally mutated antibody that maintains breadth and potency against HIV. His goal was to help guide HIV vaccine development, and he presented his work at three symposia. He culminated his degree with an honors thesis on his project in the lab.
Throughout his undergraduate years, Mark was also a frequent volunteer at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, where he helped prepare patients for surgery and also performed social visits for those residing at the VA. It was here that his passion for medicine solidified, as he saw the impact he could make on the lives of patients.
As a tutor, Mark is known for breaking down complex topics into clear, digestible concepts and for his supportive, student-centered approach. After taking the MCAT, Mark has been helping students build long-term study plans, master high-yield material, and boost their confidence, leading to major score improvements and stronger medical school profiles. As a former student-athlete, Mark knows what it’s like to balance many responsibilities while studying for the MCAT, and he is passionate about helping students manage their time on a busy schedule. Mark looks forward to helping aspiring medical students ace the MCAT!
