Before attending medical school, Dr. Nash graduated summa cum laude with Highest Honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz, with a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. He also received the Physical & Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Award. After graduating, he taught undergraduate courses, conducted research in molecular biology, and volunteered in orphanages and hospitals in Mexico.
Dr. Nash’s academic career is marked by exceptional achievement. A recipient of the National Institutes of Health Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award, he secured competitive federal funding to support his MD/PhD training. He has delivered over 20 national and international conference presentations, earned numerous Best Poster Awards, and was selected for multiple prestigious travel scholarships, including the NIH-USDA Young Investigator Travel Award and Keystone Symposia scholarships. He also received the Nutrition Obesity Research Center Outstanding Graduate Student Award.
Dr. Nash attended the University of Colorado MD/PhD Medical Scientist Training Program on a full-tuition scholarship and stipend. During his training, he studied maternal diet and its role in shaping diseases in the next generation. He worked with transplant hepatology for four years, won over 20 awards, and obtained over $100,000 in scientific grant funding while fundraising for and organizing the best-funded MD/PhD conference in its 30-year history. Dr. Nash has published over 20 peer-reviewed publications focused on nutrition, molecular biology, stem cell biology, and even reptile care. He has also served as a reviewer for JCI Insight and Cell STAR Methods.
At the University of Colorado, Dr. Nash has served on multiple admissions committees, including the Admissions Interview Subcommittee Member, the Primary Review Admissions Committee, and the MD Program Admissions Committee. As a coach, Dr. Nash brings unmatched insight into how competitive MD and MD/PhD applications are evaluated. His experience spans primary application review, interview selection, interviewing, and final committee deliberations. He helps applicants strategically frame their academic metrics, research experiences, and personal narratives to stand out in highly competitive applicant pools. With over 10 years of mentorship experience, Dr. Nash has helped applicants earn acceptances at institutions including Yale, Vanderbilt, UCSF, the University of Colorado, the University of Alabama, and the University of Utah.
