Dr. Garvey graduated from the University of Virginia as an Echols Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, ultimately earning a BA with Distinction. She then attended the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, where she received the prestigious Viola Hyde Research Stipend.
Following medical school, Dr. Garvey completed both a general surgery residency and a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) before relocating to Atlanta. During her 23 years of clinical experience, Dr. Garvey owned and operated a successful private practice for 13 years before she joined a multi-specialty group, and later, a private equity–owned vascular clinic.
Dr. Garvey has spent over two decades mentoring and coaching students, drawing on her firsthand experience from serving on admissions committees at UCLA and UPMC. Throughout her career, Dr. Garvey has distinguished herself not only through her surgical expertise but also through her dedication to research, as demonstrated by her multiple peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as the Journal of Endovascular Therapy, Surgery, and the American Journal of Surgery.
Coming from a family of nine physicians across eight specialties, Dr. Garvey offers a deeply informed perspective on the journey to becoming a doctor. She takes pride in helping others navigate the medical school admissions process, merging her wealth of clinical experience with a structured approach to ensure each student’s individual strengths shine.
