Dr. Blutinger is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and public health specialist with over a decade of clinical experience. He was a former admissions committee member at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he read and evaluated approximately 1,000 applications and interviewed nearly 300 candidates over three years. He currently works in Mount Sinai Health System as an attending physician and Emergency Department Medical Director.

Dr. Blutinger’s educational journey began at Brandeis University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a BA in economics and Italian studies. During this time, he balanced his pre-med coursework with leadership roles such as working as a radio DJ, a cappella singer, and an academic tutor. After graduating, he served as an intern on the U.S. Senate HELP Committee under Senator Tom Harkin, where he contributed to the Affordable Care Act’s foundational policies.

From there, Dr. Blutinger completed his MD at George Washington University, followed by an emergency medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He then earned a Master’s in health policy, planning, and financing from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the London School of Economics. His global perspective is further informed by clinical work in South Africa and Guatemala, reflecting his deep commitment to international medicine.

A passionate advocate for patient-centered care both in and outside the hospital, Dr. Blutinger has led critical initiatives—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City—to deliver high-quality emergency services and develop innovative programs for paramedics, administrators, and fellow physicians.

Throughout his career, Dr. Blutinger has amassed significant experience in leadership, public speaking, broadcast and print journalism, and healthcare consultancy. He has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications in multiple journals, including the Annals of Emergency Medicine, The American Journal of Emergency Medicine, and the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. Among his many accolades, Dr. Blutinger has earned recognition such as the Mount Sinnovation Partnership Fellow, Emergency Physician Unsung Hero, and numerous global health scholarships and travel grants. His broad professional background—from working on Capitol Hill and conducting malaria research at Walter Reed Army Corps of Engineers, to training at top-tier institutions and practicing emergency medicine at Mount Sinai—positions him uniquely to understand the multifaceted challenges of modern healthcare.
