Matthew's academic excellence has been recognized through induction into Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and receipt of the Dr. York Lancaster Merit Award at Rice University. During college, he served as a teaching assistant, helping undergraduates develop research projects and manuscripts. He previously worked as a research coordinator at the UTHealth Houston Neurosciences Neurocognitive Disorders Center. Matthew has contributed to labs focused on pediatric rare disease and Alzheimer's research, where he gained hands-on experimentation experience and worked closely with patients.
For two years, Matthew has worked as an MCAT tutor, guiding students through content mastery and helping them develop test-taking skills and strategies. He has worked with students from all backgrounds, including non-traditional applicants and retesters, and has helped many achieve score jumps of 10 to 20 points. His approach goes beyond the material itself—Matthew believes deeply in promoting curiosity as a north star in self-education, and his pedagogy centers on not just teaching students what to know but inspiring them to love the process of learning. Students he has worked with have gone on to matriculate at top programs, including the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, UC Davis School of Medicine, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, Texas A&M University College of Medicine, and Meharry Medical College.
