Undergrad: University of Michigan–Ann Arbor
Dental School: University of Michigan School of Dentistry
Before entering dental school, Houd worked as a global industrial engineer at Ford Motor Company, where he led quality and efficiency initiatives across multiple North American plants. In dental school, he served as a graduate student instructor for Organic Chemistry I Lab, mentoring undergraduate students through complex scientific material. His academic contributions include a peer-reviewed publication on antibiotic prescribing trends among dentists and a national survey study evaluating the impact of grading systems on dental program admissions, which he presented at Michigan’s Research Day.
Houd is passionate about coaching because he knows how overwhelming the process can be and how transformative the right mentorship is. His approach is calm, structured, and highly supportive. He meets students where they are and works alongside them to craft compelling narratives and strategies that reflect their values and potential.
With a strong foundation in both STEM and healthcare education, Houd brings a systems-minded yet personal approach to coaching. His greatest strengths as an admissions counselor lie in his ability to organize complex ideas, understand diverse academic paths, and highlight each applicant’s unique strengths with precision and care. As a former engineering student who transitioned successfully into a top dental program, he is especially skilled at helping both traditional and non-traditional applicants confidently tell their story.
As a Detroit native and first-generation student, Houd is passionate about educational access and mentorship. He brings lived experience to his work with all dental school candidates, including underserved and underrepresented applicants, empowering them with structure and encouragement.
