Dr. Gardas began his clinical and academic training at Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in India, where he earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in physiotherapy. He previously served as research mentor at the Mahatma Gandhi Mission College of Physiotherapy in Mumbai for over four years. He now works as a research assistant at East Carolina University.
Dr. Gardas’ scholarship centers on understanding and enhancing motor recovery, with particular emphasis on children with cerebral palsy and individuals with vestibular disorders. His research integrates neurophysiology, motor behavior, and translational rehabilitation science to bridge laboratory findings with real-world functional outcomes. Dr. Gardas has delivered more than eight first-authored podium presentations at regional and national conferences and has twice received the Best Judges’ Choice Award for platform presentations during his PhD training. In addition to presenting his work, he has served as a judge for undergraduate research poster competitions, reflecting his commitment to academic mentorship and scholarly excellence.
In addition to conference presentations, Dr. Gardas has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in rehabilitation and pediatric journals. Notably, one of his recent publications in a leading pediatric journal was selected as the “Editor’s Choice” article of the year—an honor recognizing both scientific rigor and clinical relevance. His work has contributed to advancing evidence-based neurorehabilitation practices and strengthening the integration of neuroscience into physical therapy education. He has been published in Physical & Occupational Therapy in Pediatrics, the Journal of the Society of Indian Physiotherapists, PLOS One, and other journals.
Beyond research productivity, Dr. Gardas is deeply committed to student development. He has mentored Doctor of Physical Therapy students in the design and execution of capstone projects and research posters, guiding them through hypothesis development, methodological design, data interpretation, and professional presentation. His mentees have successfully presented their work in academic forums, strengthening their applications for advanced training and professional opportunities.
With eight years of research mentorship experience, Dr. Gardas brings a structured, analytical, and highly supportive approach to helping students. He specializes in helping them formulate high-impact research questions, conduct rigorous literature reviews, develop sound methodologies, and communicate findings with clarity and confidence.
