Before attending the Stritch School of Medicine, Dr. Zhou graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He worked as a resident assistant at UCLA, mentoring numerous students who went on to gain admission into medical school. He also co-founded Good Clothes Good People, an initiative that established a campus resource to provide underserved students with access to essential items. After graduation, he worked as an EMT before enrolling in medical school.
At Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, Dr. Zhou served as Vice President of his class and contributed to the admissions committee as both an application reviewer and interviewer in a decision-making capacity. Throughout medical school and into his residency, he has served as a peer mentor and preceptor to junior and senior medical students. He is deeply involved in medical education, regularly volunteering at free clinics in the Chicagoland area and mentoring first- and second-year medical students in clinical settings. In recognition of his leadership and dedication, he was awarded the Excellence in Emergency Medicine Award by the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. Dr. Zhou has also contributed to scholarly work, including a retrospective study and multiple case reports in the Journal of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Zhou's philosophy as a counselor centers on helping students discover and pursue their own unique paths to medicine. He emphasizes that success is not defined by following a conventional route but by building on individual strengths and interests. Dr. Zhou is passionate about mentorship and service-driven leadership, and he is committed to guiding aspiring physicians through the challenges of the pre-med journey with clarity and confidence.
