Dr. Jake Weiss, Med School Admissions Consultant at Inspira Advantage

Dr. Weiss is a physician and psychiatry resident at the University of Washington who earned his MD from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. With four years of mentorship experience, he has helped students gain acceptance to schools including the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Ohio State University College of Medicine, the University of Minnesota Medical School, the Medical College of Wisconsin, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine, among others.

Before attending the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Weiss graduated from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities with a Bachelor of Science in psychology and a minor in biology. During his undergraduate years, he served as President of the Minnesota Science Business Association and Community Outreach Chair for Pre-Health Community Connections. After graduation, Dr. Weiss worked full-time in community mental health in Minneapolis, serving as a mental health counselor, case manager, and mental health practitioner across several organizations. In these roles, he led individual and group interventions, completed psychiatric assessments, and collaborated with interdisciplinary care teams—formative experiences that continue to shape his empathetic, person-centered approach to coaching.

Throughout medical school, Dr. Weiss remained deeply involved in psychiatry, research, leadership, and service. He contributed to multiple research projects focused on pediatric oncology decision-making, clinical trial attrition, and global health initiatives in Rwanda, where he served as Lead Author on a study examining barriers to infection prevention and control practices, published in Antimicrobial Stewardship & Healthcare Epidemiology. His scholarly work has also been presented nationally. Dr. Weiss was also featured in an AAMC article highlighting non-traditional paths to medical school and was selected as a finalist in the Hektoen COVID-19 Monument Poetry Competition.

Dr. Weiss has received numerous awards and scholarships recognizing his commitment to psychiatry, ethics, and patient-centered care, including first place in the Stanley M. Kaplan Psychiatry Essay Award, the Karges Family Psychiatry Scholarship, the Mangino Clinical Scholarship in Medical Ethics, the Robert F. and Irma K. Korbitz Endowed Scholarship, and the John D. and Virginia Riesch Scholarship from the Wisconsin Medical Society. He also earned the UWSMPH Path of Distinction in Research and received honorable mention in the Norman Fost Medical Ethics Essay Contest.

Dr. Weiss is passionate about helping students build authentic, compelling applications that reflect who they truly are rather than who they think admissions committees want to see. He especially enjoys helping applicants identify overarching themes within their experiences, craft meaningful narratives, and approach the admissions process with confidence and clarity. His coaching style is collaborative, encouraging, and highly individualized—Dr. Weiss believes every applicant has a unique story worth telling and works closely with students to highlight their strengths while developing strategic and realistic plans for success. Having personally navigated a gap year, non-traditional clinical experiences, and the challenges of balancing multiple professional interests, Dr. Weiss strives to be the kind of mentor he would have wanted during his own journey.
