Before attending Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Hatch graduated from Harvey Mudd College with a BS in biology and chemistry. After college, he spent three years as a research associate and Senior Lab Manager at NYU Medical Center, where he regularly presented research posters and reports at faculty and student group meetings.
At Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Hatch earned his MD, MS, and PhD, and served on the MD/PhD admissions and recruitment committee. He was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society and received the Tamara L. Bolin, M.D. Memorial Scholarship Award for Medical Excellence. During graduate training, he also served on the American Academy of Neurology's Medical Student Committee and the Undergraduate Education Subcommittee, where he provided mentorship and application support to college and medical students. Dr. Hatch was also named to the Boston Combined Residency Program Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Honor Roll and currently serves on the KARES Foundation Scientific Advisory Board and the Leadership, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Child Neurology Society.
Dr. Hatch has published multiple first-author papers in high-profile journals and specializes in mentoring aspiring physician-scientists at the college, medical school, and graduate school levels. His research has been recognized with the Julius Marmur Graduate Student Research Award for best PhD thesis, the Genetics Society of America DeLill Nasser Award for Professional Development in Genetics, the Einstein Junior Investigator in Neuroscience Research Award, and a National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke /NINDS F31 Predoctoral Fellowship. He has a longstanding interest in genetic causes of rare neurodevelopmental disorders and plans to pursue a research career studying complex genetic neurodevelopmental conditions. Dr. Hatch is particularly interested in developing therapeutic strategies to improve clinical outcomes for affected children and their families, while eliminating socioeconomic health disparities that limit access to care.
Dr. Hatch has extensive experience mentoring college, gap year, and medical students. He provides support at all stages of the medical school application process (whether they’re pursuing an MD, DO, or MD/PhD), as well as graduate school and residency. He is particularly passionate about supporting students who are underrepresented in medicine or who identify as non-traditional applicants and may have pursued other roles between college and medical school.
