After earning a BS in microbiology from the University of California, Davis, in just three years, Dr. Ramini spent three formative gap years gaining hands-on clinical and research experience. This included working full-time in biopharmaceutical research and as an eye recovery technician, performing independent corneal recoveries for transplant. This experience provided Dr. Ramini with unique insight into research from a perspective outside of academics.
During his medical school education at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, Dr. Ramini maintained excellent academic performance while continuing research activities. He has been a Lead Author on multiple publications and has been published in journals such as Cornea, Current Eye Research, Arthroplasty Today, and The Ocular Surface. Dr. Ramini was awarded the Student Training in Approaches to Research (STAR) Scholarship and the Zale Ophthalmology Scholarship.
Dr. Ramini has experience guiding students in many areas of research, including biomedical and clinical information, data science, microbiology, infectious disease, and physiology. He also has experience guiding students through research across molecular, integrative, systems, and quantitative biology. Students Dr. Ramini has coached have been accepted to multiple top medical schools, including NYU, the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, UCLA, UCSF, and UC Davis, among others. They have also published their research in the Journal of Undergraduate Research, the Journal of Global Health, and the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine.
Throughout his years of research experience, Dr. Ramini has gained proficiency not only in planning projects from start to finish but also in data analysis, manuscript composition, and much more. He delivers individualized, student-focused guidance while maintaining open communication with students.
