Before attending the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Riya graduated from Villanova University with a BS in biology through Penn Dental Medicine’s accelerated Bio-Dental program. She also matched into an orthodontics residency at New York University College of Dentistry. Riya has over eight years of tutoring experience and is a master of the DAT’s Quantitative Reasoning section, scoring a perfect 600.

Riya's academic career has been shaped by a deep commitment to research and public health. As an Associate Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, she collaborated with faculty at the Perelman School of Medicine through the Summer Undergraduate Mentored Research (SUMR) Program, co-authoring a published scoping review in A&A Practice examining the challenges of motherhood for anesthesiologists. She has also conducted orthodontic research focused on mesenchymal cells in the mid-palatal suture, further sharpening her analytical thinking and ability to break down complex scientific material.
