Undergrad: Ohio State University
Medical School: University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences
Before attending medical school, Dr. De Silva graduated summa cum laude from Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s in neuroscience with honors and departmental distinction. A highlight of his college career was serving as a high school science teaching assistant for an underfunded city public school.
While in medical school, he remained involved in mentoring through advising pre-meds via school-sanctioned and national organizations. He served as the Conference Chair of the UTCOM AMA-MSS Organization and the Treasurer and Curriculum Evaluation Committee Liaison of the Medical Student Council. He was the only member of his class to be selected onto his medical school's Curriculum Evaluation Committee, where he used qualitative and quantitative data to provide feedback on curriculum changes. Through these mentorship roles, he has helped dozens of students gain acceptance into medical school. Students Dr. De Silva has coached have been accepted to the University of Toledo College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Duke University School of Medicine, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, the College of New Jersey/ New Jersey Medical School BS/MD program, and the Drew University/New Jersey Medical School BS/ MD program.
Dr. De Silva also served as a peer mentor to his younger colleagues in medical school, helping them match into their desired specialties. He also co-founded a non-profit organization that taught social skills to individuals with ASD through sport. Dr. De Silva also served as a researcher at the University of Toledo College of Medicine for four years, and his research has been published in Cureus, Orthopedic Reviews, and JPRAS Open.
Dr. De Silva accomplished the daunting feat of couples-matching into an orthopedic surgery residency (along with his partner, who matched into an OB/GYN residency). He successfully completed his PGY1 year of an orthopedic surgery residency at Morristown Medical Center before deciding on a career change. He then matched into a radiology residency.
Through his experiences, Dr. De Silva has truly refined his art of producing a compelling application. He now aims to use his vast experience with teaching, mentoring, and navigating competitive pathways to be a helping hand to others who need one. What sets Dr. De Silva apart is his unique combination of experiences as a teacher, a lifelong athlete, and a resident physician who has seen the other side of competitive admissions processes. Dr. De Silva uses this unique combination of perspectives to provide students with thorough application-forming strategies.
