Dr. Kendal C.

Before attending medical school, Dr. Carrow graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M University with a BS in biomedical engineering and a minor in neuroscience. During her undergraduate career, she was named an Astronaut Scholar by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation and received the Craig Brown Outstanding Senior Engineer Award, among several other honors. She also gained research experience at the National Institutes of Health as a biomedical engineering intern, laying the groundwork for her future as a physician-scientist.

At Northwestern, Dr. Carrow pursued her MD/PhD through the Medical Scientist Training Program, earning a PhD in biomedical engineering as a Ryan Fellow and graduating as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. In addition to her role as a Northwestern University MSTP admissions committee member, Dr. Carrow also served as Chair of the MSTP Admissions Task Force and as an outreach advocate, developing resources and strategies to improve the applicant experience and strengthen the admissions process. Through these roles, she gained valuable insight into what distinguishes successful applicants and how admissions committees evaluate them.

Dr. Carrow's graduate research focused on the development of protein-like polymer therapeutics for oxidative stress and inflammatory diseases, resulting in multiple peer-reviewed publications in Advanced Materials and contributing to patent applications translating laboratory discoveries toward clinical use. Her work received national media coverage through outlets including Forbes, MSN, and Phys.org. She was awarded the NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (F30 Fellowship) from the National Institute on Aging to support her physician-scientist training. Upon graduating, she received the James Thomas Case Radiology Award and the Julius Conn Jr. Surgery Award from Northwestern University.

Dr. Carrow's greatest strength as a coach is helping applicants identify and communicate what makes them stand out. Her coaching style is collaborative and goal-oriented, working with students to analyze their applications, identify areas for improvement, develop strategies to address weaknesses, and create a clear roadmap toward their goals. She specializes in working with organized, proactive students seeking a structured yet personalized approach to the application process, particularly MD/PhD applicants and students pursuing research-intensive careers. 

Dr. Carrow's passion for coaching stems from the mentorship she received throughout her own journey. With years of experience evaluating applicants, mentoring students, and serving on a medical school admissions committee, Dr. Carrow is passionate about helping future physicians develop applications that give them the best shot at acceptance.
