Dr. Katherine Choi, BS/MD Admissions Consultant at Inspira Advantage

Dr. Choi is a plastic surgery resident at UCLA Health, where she serves as Chief Resident. She graduated with an MD from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, where she served on the admissions committee for 10 years, reviewing and interviewing hundreds of applicants. Students she has coached have been accepted to medical schools at Stanford, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Cornell, NYU, Yale, UCLA, and many other top institutions.

Before attending the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, Dr. Choi graduated from the university's former Baccalaureate/MD program, earning a BA in biology. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Vancouver, Canada, she pursued medicine as an international student, an experience that continues to inform her coaching. During her undergraduate years, Dr. Choi spent a funded year as a Dean's Research Scholar at one of the nation's first digital health research and innovation centers, where she explored a career in interventional cardiology before ultimately pursuing plastic surgery.

At the Keck School of Medicine, Dr. Choi earned an MD with distinction in research and served as an interviewer on the medical school admissions committee, where she reviewed applications and conducted interviews over multiple admissions cycles. She also completed a dedicated research year in plastic and reconstructive surgery, during which she published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. Her work has been published in the Journal of Burn Care & Research, Burns, the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and many other prestigious publications. Dr. Choi went on to match into the integrated plastic surgery residency program at the University of California, Los Angeles, one of the most competitive programs in the country. She is now pursuing further specialization with a fellowship in hand and microsurgery.

With over 10 years of experience in medical education and admissions, Dr. Choi has successfully guided students pursuing a career in medicine from high school through the residency match. Dr. Choi believes in fostering well-rounded applicants with interests and passions beyond science and medicine. Having personally navigated the competitive landscapes of a BS/MD program, an integrated plastic surgery residency, and a fellowship match, she draws on her experiences to help students and residents develop their own paths in medicine. Dr. Choi specializes in narrative development, personalized application strategy, and strategic positioning for those aiming to attend the most competitive schools or pursue residency training.
