His work has earned multiple awards, including the California Society of Plastic Surgeons Research Award, the LMSA National Research Award, the HIV Vaccine Trials Network Research Grant, and the Aesthetic Society Externship Award. His work has been published in Cureus, the Journal of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and other publications. Dr. Camacho’s dedication to compassionate patient care and service was further recognized through induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, one of medicine's highest honors for humanistic care and leadership. He also served as Co-President of the Latino Medical Student Association at Drexel, co-hosting the annual LMSA National Conference.
Beyond research and clinical medicine, Dr. Camacho has dedicated his career to mentoring future physicians. He has served on multiple admissions and applicant selection committees, participated in holistic application review, interviewed prospective students, and advised hundreds of aspiring physicians through every stage of the admissions process. His experience spans personal statement development, activity descriptions, school selection strategy, interview preparation, mock interviews, and longitudinal mentorship, giving him a comprehensive understanding of what distinguishes exceptional applicants beyond grades and test scores. His experiences have shaped a mentoring philosophy centered on helping students transform adversity into opportunity and uncertainty into confidence.
Dr. Camacho believes the most successful applicants are not those with perfect applications but those who understand how to communicate their journey with authenticity and purpose. He understands that there is no single formula for success. His advising is highly individualized, emphasizing strategic planning, meticulous attention to detail, honest feedback, and personal growth. His guiding philosophy is simple: it is not the obstacles within your application that determine where you will end up; it’s how you transform those obstacles into your story. Every challenge can become a defining strength when approached with reflection, resilience, and intentional storytelling. Above all, Dr. Camacho’s mission is to empower students with the confidence, skills, and authentic narrative needed not only to gain admission but also to find the medical school where they will thrive and build a fulfilling career.
