Dr. Jasmine Stevens, Med School Admissions Consultant at Inspira Advantage

Dr. Stevens graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), where she served on the admissions committee as a student interviewer. With years of coaching experience, she has helped students get accepted to medical schools at the University of Maryland, Meharry Medical College, Tulane University, Howard University, the University of Alabama, and others.

Before attending UMSOM, Dr. Stevens graduated summa cum laude from Howard University with a Bachelor of Science in psychology on a full scholarship. Her journey toward medicine began while she was still in high school, when she dual-enrolled at Tulane University, taking medical school prerequisite courses during her junior and senior years. She went on to complete an internship cataloging human skeletal remains at Tulane University’s Department of Anthropology. At Howard, she was involved in a graduate clinical psychology research lab, youth mentoring and tutoring organizations, and a non-profit organization aimed at helping those experiencing housing insecurity.

Dr. Stevens worked for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as an Intramural Research Award fellow, where she analyzed the relationship between substance use and infectious diseases. During her time at the NIH, she presented at multiple research conferences and received an award for her work presented at the American Society of Addiction Medicine conference. During medical school, she completed an additional research year studying the utilization of referrals to outpatient substance use treatment for patients admitted with infectious disease complications related to their addiction. This research has resulted in multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal on Addictions and Open Forum Infectious Diseases, as well as poster presentations at national conferences.

Dr Stevens is currently a general adult psychiatry resident at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her current interests within psychiatry include substance use, eating disorders, and women's mental health conditions surrounding reproductive issues. After finishing her medical training, she envisions herself working as a physician-scientist taking care of patients while advancing the field through clinical research that can help people on a population level.

Dr. Stevens' passion for coaching students comes from being the first physician in her family. She had to be very intentional about researching the steps to becoming a doctor and seeking out mentors who could guide her along the way. Dr. Stevens desires to give back and help the next generation of physicians reach their personal and career goals. Her coaching style is framed around flexibility, recognizing an individual's strengths and highlighting those within their application, and making genuine connections.
