Dr. Gowri Gowda, Med School Admissions Consultant at Inspira Advantage

Dr. Gowda earned an MD/MPH and a Master’s in biochemistry from Tulane University School of Medicine, where she served as an admissions interviewer. She is now a vascular surgery resident at the University of California, Davis, where she serves as a residency admissions consultant. With years of admissions committee and mentorship experience, Dr. Gowda has helped students earn acceptances to Tulane University School of Medicine, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine, and New York Medical College.

Before attending medical school, Dr. Gowda graduated from New York University, where she majored in global public health and pre-medical sciences. After graduation, she spent a gap year teaching at a resource-poor school in Chicago, an experience that ignited a lifelong commitment to teaching and mentorship. She also held a research position at Mount Sinai Health, further deepening her clinical and scientific foundation before medical school.

During medical school, Dr. Gowda founded the Tulane Vascular Surgery Interest Group and served as a mentor to students exploring the field. She earned induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, a peer-nominated national honor recognizing medical students who exemplify compassion, leadership, and dedication to service. She also became actively involved in the Association of Women Surgeons (AWS) at both the local and national level, where she has taken on numerous mentorship roles throughout her training.

Dr. Gowda has published multiple peer-reviewed papers in vascular surgery, with work appearing in the Journal of Vascular Surgery Cases, Innovations and Techniques, and Annals of Vascular Surgery. She has also contributed a book chapter to The Clinical Anatomy of the Vascular System. Dr. Gowda has served as an editor of the Audible Bleeding Vascular Surgery podcast, where she produced numerous episodes and created and led its international series.

What sets Dr. Gowda apart as a coach is her firsthand experience navigating two of the most competitive processes in medicine: gaining acceptance to medical school and matching into an integrated vascular surgery residency. She understands what truly differentiates applicants and how to help students build a holistic application that is authentic to who they are. She is especially passionate about the personal statement process and loves helping applicants uncover how their experiences have shaped them so they can craft an honest, compelling narrative.

Dr. Gowda's approach to coaching is collaborative, but she isn’t afraid to provide firm leadership and structured timelines to keep students on track. The disciplined systems she relied on to succeed in medical school and residency are the same ones she now helps students build and follow, ensuring they make consistent, organized progress toward their goals. Dr. Gowda is passionate about coaching because she knows how much of her own path was shaped by great mentors, and she wants to pay that forward. She believes a career in medicine is never "just a job," but a deeply meaningful calling, and that anyone willing to put in the work deserves a real shot at pursuing it. Helping students reach that point is what drives her.
