Before attending SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University College of Medicine, Dr. Shah graduated summa cum laude from Stony Brook University with a Bachelor of Science in biology on a Presidential Scholarship, covering full tuition. At Stony Brook, he earned the Academic Achievement Award three times for maintaining a 4.0 GPA in a given semester.
At SUNY Downstate, Dr. Shah quickly distinguished himself as a leader and mentor. He served on the admissions committee as a student liaison and interviewer, conducting peer-to-peer interviews with prospective applicants and participating in the decision-making process. He also co-authored a pre-clinical curriculum as an executive board member for the Clinically Reimagined Apprenticeship For Physician Training (CRAFT) program and matched students with faculty physicians for longitudinal career guidance. As a clinic officer at the Anne Kastor Brooklyn Free Clinic, he mentored junior volunteers in clinical documentation and patient care. During medical school, Dr. Shah was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society and received the Lucy Frank Squire, MD Award for Excellence in Radiology.
Dr. Shah is now a diagnostic surgery resident at Lenox Hill Hospital, part of Northwell Health. He serves as the Treasurer and Secretary for the Resident and Fellow Section of the New York State Radiological Society and is an active researcher. His academic portfolio includes multiple peer-reviewed journal articles, textbook chapters, and presentations at national conferences, including the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Society of Interventional Radiology. His research has been published in the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Cureus, and Translational Sports Medicine, among other publications.

Drawing on his experience as a member of the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University College of Medicine admissions committee and as an organizer of residency-match panels and board review sessions, Dr. Shah equips applicants with clear, actionable strategies. This firsthand experience on the other side of the table gives him a nuanced understanding of exactly what elite medical programs look for in successful candidates, allowing him to strategically guide applicants through the process. Dr. Shah excels at helping students cut through the noise to craft compelling, authentic narratives that highlight their unique strengths and create a cohesive application.
