Ashwin K.

Before medical school, Ashwin worked as a consulting analyst at ClearView Healthcare Partners, a life sciences strategy consulting firm. At ISMMS, he co-chaired the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership (EHHOP), the school's student-run free clinic providing care to uninsured patients in East Harlem. His research at ISMMS has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications, including first-author work on cardiovascular outcomes among U.S. immigrants in the American Journal of Preventive Cardiology, racial and ethnic disparities in esophageal cancer in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, and treatment outcomes in malignant pleural mesothelioma in Cancers. He’s also presented at national and international conferences such as the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the European Society for Medical Oncology, and the American Urological Association.

Ashwin began tutoring at a local mathematics center while in high school, where he spent four years working with students across a wide range of ages and abilities. He transitioned to virtual tutoring and expanded his teaching to include physics, chemistry, and biology, learning the importance of adapting his approach to each individual student. At ISMMS, he continues to teach as a peer tutor, helping fellow medical students work through challenging material and prepare for exams. 

As a tutor, Ashwin excels at adjusting the level and style of his instruction to fit each learner. He aims to provide the same level of patience and individualized attention to students that helped him thrive in his admissions journey. He enjoys seeing a student become more confident in a subject that once intimidated them, and he tries to identify each student's needs early and build every session around them. Ashwin's goal is for each tutoring session to leave students feeling more capable and confident.
