I was inspired to start my own practice largely because I grew up watching my father run his own private medical office. From a young age, I understood the unique satisfaction that comes with building something of your own — creating an environment that reflects your values, your standards of care, and your relationship with patients. Plastic surgery, in particular, lends itself beautifully to a boutique private practice model. It allows for a high level of personalization, discretion, and continuity that’s difficult to achieve in a larger institutional setting.
From the beginning, I dreamed of creating a space where patients could feel cared for from the moment they walk through the door — one that seamlessly integrates art, science, and compassion. Having my own accredited operating rooms has been part of that vision; it gives me the ability to perform surgery in a safe, private, and comfortable environment, while maintaining full control over the patient experience and my own schedule.
My biggest piece of advice would be to go into private practice with both passion and preparation. The autonomy is incredibly rewarding — you get to shape your own career, your team, and the kind of care you deliver — but it also comes with real challenges. When you start your own practice, you’re not only a physician, you’re also a small business owner. You’ll need to learn to manage staff, handle finances, oversee compliance, and constantly adapt to the evolving healthcare landscape.
Surround yourself with mentors, invest in good people, and understand that leadership and communication are just as critical as surgical skill. If you’re willing to put in the work, it can be one of the most fulfilling ways to practice medicine — one that truly reflects who you are and what kind of physician you aspire to be.
