Dr. Shah completed an interdepartmental bachelor’s degree in biology and political science at Union College, graduating summa cum laude while simultaneously earning an MBA in healthcare management from Clarkson University. His dedication to service, leadership, and academic excellence earned him induction into the Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Societies.
After earning a BS and MBA, Dr. Shah graduated magna cum laude from Albany Medical College as a Joseph Collins National Foundation Scholar and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Throughout his educational journey, Dr. Shah has developed a strong commitment to community engagement and mentorship. He valued his work mentoring and tutoring underserved youth in Schenectady through COCOA House, later continuing his involvement as a member of its Board of Directors.
Dr. Shah understands the importance of strengthening the healthcare system and has pursued multiple opportunities to serve as a physician-leader. His work with the New York State Department of Health focused on improving stroke outcomes, and his research on disparities in dialysis vascular access earned him a podium abstract award from the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology. As a resident physician, he is currently leading a hospital system-wide initiative to improve patient-physician and nursing-physician communication and collaboration. His research has been published in selective journals, including the Journal of Vascular Access, the Journal of General Internal Medicine, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
As an admissions coach, Dr. Shah specializes in supporting both traditional MD and BS/MD applicants, drawing on familiarity and personal experience with both pathways. His strength as a counselor lies in forming strong, intentional connections with mentees—exploring their motivations for pursuing medicine and helping transform both traditional and non-traditional experiences into compelling, cohesive narratives. He prefers a flexible mentorship style that empowers students to drive sessions with their passions and questions while he provides structured guidance, perspective, and support. When challenges arise, Dr. Shah is comfortable stepping in to lead students. Drawing from his own mentors’ influence, Dr. Shah emphasizes individualized, relationship-centered guidance that supports the next generation of physicians through the complexities of their pre-medical journeys.
