Dr. Dele-Oni began her academic journey at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where she graduated with a BS in biology and served as an interviewer and Lead Admissions Ambassador for four years. After graduation, she completed two professional development years at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, conducting proteomics research and developing a strong foundation in translational science and biomedical investigation. She also worked as a unit coordinator at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Dr. Dele-Oni is actively engaged in academic scholarship, with research interests spanning plastic and reconstructive surgery, breast surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. A consistent focus of her work is addressing disparities in surgical care and improving access to higher education for students from marginalized communities. She has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, including a recent surgical review focused on optimizing outcomes in breast reconstruction. Her work has been published in Nature Communications, Molecular & Cellular Proteomics, and Current Breast Cancer Reports.
At Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Dele-Oni continued to distinguish herself through leadership, scholarship, and service. She served as Class President and Secretary of the Kansas City University DOCARE Chapter. Dr. Dele-Oni also received multiple awards, including the Summer Student Research Fellowship, the Student National Medical Association Global Health Fellowship, and the American Osteopathic Foundation’s Sterling Welch, DO, Scholars Grant.
Dr. Dele-Oni has held several national and institutional leadership positions. She served as Co-Chair of the Student National Medical Association’s National Osteopathic School Committee and co-founded the Journey for Underrepresented in Medicine Program (J.U.M.P.-START), a program dedicated to providing hands-on exposure, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for aspiring healthcare professionals from underrepresented backgrounds. She also serves on Boston University Medical Center’s Graduate Medical Education Resident and Fellow Engagement Steering Committee, where she supports residency recruitment and retention efforts. Through this role, she also participates in second-look programming, organizes resident-focused events, and speaks nationally about her experiences in surgical training to promote greater representation in medicine.
