Throughout his career, Dr. Jiser demonstrated a commitment to lifelong learning and the early adoption of emerging technologies and procedures. He developed advanced expertise in bariatric/weight-loss surgery as well as robotic surgery through extensive post-residency training. He founded weight-management programs at Lowell General Hospital, Emerson Hospital, and Nashoba Valley Medical Center—each of which earned American College of Surgeons Center of Excellence certification under his leadership. He has also held multiple high-level positions, including Chief of Surgery, Medical Director of Surgical Services, Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery, and Board Chair of the Lowell General Hospital PHO.
After a distinguished clinical career, he has transitioned into consulting, focusing on utilization management as well as the development and expansion of robotic surgery programs. Dr. Jiser has served as a consultant to several medical device companies, offering expert evaluation of new technologies, participating in case observation, and providing surgical proctoring.
Dr. Jiser has enjoyed mentoring students throughout his career. He has worked with pre-medical, medical, and physician assistant students, offering shadowing experiences that ranged from several days to several weeks in the clinic, on patient rounds, and in the operating room. As a coach, Dr. Jiser prioritizes getting to know each student individually, allowing him to thoughtfully assess their strengths and areas for growth. His easy-going, approachable coaching style creates an environment where students feel comfortable discussing their interests, asking questions, and setting personalized goals.
