Before attending the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Dr. Hueniken graduated summa cum laude from the University of Miami with a BS in biochemistry and nutrition and a BA in history. During his undergraduate years, he served as a resident assistant with the University of Miami Housing and Residential Life, developing early leadership and mentorship skills that would carry over into his medical career. He was recognized with the Jennifer Wollman Prize for Outstanding Achievement in History, the Foote Fellow distinction through the University of Miami's Honors College, a Presidential Scholarship, and other merit-based awards.
Dr. Hueniken is completing a transitional year at Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, before pursuing an anesthesiology residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). His research spans clinical anesthesiology and translational pain research, including studies on genetically engineered neuronal cells for the management of chronic pain. He has published peer-reviewed work in Cureus and has presented at national conferences, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting.
Throughout his training, Dr. Hueniken has demonstrated a deep commitment to mentorship, education, and leadership. As an admissions committee member at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, he played an active role in reviewing applications, interviewing candidates, and shaping the next generation of medical students, giving him an invaluable insider perspective into what makes an applicant stand out. He has also served as a dedicated residency application mentor, guiding medical students through every stage of the anesthesiology match process, from strategic program selection to mock interviews and rank list development. Additionally, Dr. Hueniken has extensive experience as a USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 coach and medical tutor, helping students develop personalized, high-yield study strategies and build confidence in tackling complex material.
