Before attending medical school, Dr. Dharani graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a BS in biology. She was a member of the Pre-Medical Society and Peer Mentor Association, and was inducted into Alpha Epsilon Delta.
At UIWSOM, Dr. Dharani was recognized with the Patient Institute Physician-in-Training Professionalism & Leadership Award for her commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care and leadership. She also received the UIWSOM Mission Scholarship and the Excellence in General Internal Medicine Award. Dr. Dharni also served as Secretary of the school’s chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and as Social Chair of the Student Government Association. In addition to her admissions and clinical work, Dr. Dharani has contributed to peer-reviewed research and national conferences, with scholarship focused on medication safety, clinical outcomes, and health policy. Her publications include narrative and literature reviews in Advances in Therapy and Cureus, as well as conference presentations on physician advocacy.
Dr. Dharani currently provides full-spectrum inpatient and outpatient care as a resident physician, with a clinical focus on preventive medicine, chronic disease management, and patient education. Her role on the Houston Methodist Hospital Family Medicine Residency Admissions Committee involves reviewing applications, evaluating personal statements and letters of recommendation, interviewing candidates, and participating in admissions decisions. She also serves as a medical school interviewer at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine, where she assesses applicants’ communication skills, professionalism, motivation for medicine, and alignment with institutional values. Together, these roles give her insight into what admissions committees seek in applicants and allow her to offer strategic, insider guidance to students.
As an admissions counselor, Dr. Dharani brings over 8 years of coaching experience supporting pre-medical and medical students through medical school and residency applications. She has guided applicants to MD and DO acceptances and interview invitations by helping them build structured timelines, refine personal statements, prepare for interviews, and develop cohesive, authentic application narratives. Her approach is strategic yet compassionate, grounded in firsthand admissions experience and a deep understanding of what committees seek in competitive candidates. Students she has mentored have been accepted to the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine, the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio, Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Texas A&M School of Engineering Medicine, the University of Texas Health Houston McGovern Medical School, and Ross University School of Medicine, among others.
Dr. Dharani is known for her warm, highly personalized counseling style. She emphasizes rapport-building and clear communication, ensuring applicants feel supported and confident throughout a complex and often stressful process. She excels at identifying individual strengths, addressing areas for growth, and translating feedback into actionable strategies. Her mentorship centers on narrative development, intentional experience framing, and thoughtful reflection to help applicants present compelling and genuine applications.
Dr. Dharani’s commitment to mentorship is rooted in service and education. She founded and has led a refugee mentorship program since 2017, providing academic and application support to Afghan and Syrian refugee students. She also mentors undergraduate and medical students through multiple university-affiliated and professional programs, reflecting her commitment to expanding access to guidance and opportunity. She is passionate about empowering future physicians with clarity, confidence, and purpose as they navigate the path to medicine.
