Our Interview With Karthik Aghoram, Ph.D., Director of Pre-health Post-Baccalaureate Program at Meredith College

May 18, 2026

Karthik Aghoram, Ph.D. is the Director of Pre-health Post-Baccalaureate Program at Meredith College.

What makes the Meredith College Articulation Agreements uniquely valuable for aspiring health-professions students?

We are proud and grateful to partner with three health-professions schools - 1 MD, 1 DO, and 1 PA school - to provide automatic acceptance (PA) or interview (MD/DO) opportunities for our pre-health post-bacc students based on their post-bacc grades and/or test scores. Our program is composed mainly of non-traditional students, mostly career-changers with some enhancers. For both groups of students, our articulations provide a unique opportunity to highlight their recent academic excellence in a science-heavy curriculum, and thus their preparedness for health-professions school. It is also extremely valuable for our students to make the major cut (application to interview) and demonstrate their personality and professionalism in an interview.

How does it prepare students for the realities of health-professions school and the medical field?

Our program is rooted in rigorous academics that are designed to simulate the rigor of the didactic years of health-professions programs. Being a structured, cohort-based full-time program, we are very intentional about providing a curriculum that helps lay strong scientific foundations, while also challenging students to manage their time and attention between academics and community-engagement activities. We incorporate intentional test-prep opportunities and high-touch, individualized advising on all aspects of their preparation, including one-on-one personal-statement writing sessions to completing CAS applications. We also strive to maintain a kind, collaborative environment wherein our students are supported and support one another. Our articulation-partners have recognized these aspects or our program, giving our students a strong advantage.
