Challenge:
Between part-time work at a restaurant near the NYU campus and maintaining her GPA with a full course load, Heyang was concerned that her extracurricular activities for dental school would be lackluster at best. She wanted guidance on what experiences admissions committees would be looking for before pursuing new activities.

Performed a full assessment of Heyang’s academic schedule, GPA, and existing commitments to create a strategic plan for maximizing extracurricular impact without overextending her

Guided Heyang toward high-value clinical experiences, including shadowing opportunities at the NYU College of Dentistry

Helped Heyang apply for a volunteer dental assistant role at the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center

Connected Heyang with faculty in the NYU Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Radiology, and Medicine Department, leading to her securing a competitive research assistantship

Helped Heyang take on a leadership role as Community Outreach Coordinator for NYU’s Global Dental Brigades Chapter, where she organized and participated in international service projects providing dental care to underserved populations

Paired Heyang with a dedicated DAT tutor, resulting in a top-tier 520 DAT score

Enrolled Heyang in the Inspira Dental Research Fellowship, resulting in a publication in the Journal of Dental Hygiene
Outcome:
Heyang was accepted to 15 of the 25 dental schools she applied to, including her first choice: the University of San Francisco School of Dentistry.
