Before attending the Duke University School of Medicine, Elle’s academic and athletic abilities earned her the IBM Watson Scholarship to attend Johns Hopkins University, where she also played varsity basketball. Elle later transferred to UNC–Chapel Hill, graduating summa cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She has also worked as a college advisor through the College Advising Corps, a non-profit in Raleigh, NC.

During her undergraduate years, Elle's leadership skills shone through her involvement in various organizations. Her commitment to community service was recognized with the President's Volunteer Service Award for her home healthcare work in Durham, NC. Elle's passion for research was evident in her contributions to projects in global health, psychology, and cancer biology.

Before starting her medical education, Elle dedicated time to serving her community as a college adviser at a rural NC high school. She also coached the school's basketball and volleyball teams, demonstrating her commitment to mentorship and youth development. At Duke University School of Medicine, Elle developed a particular interest in neurosurgery and general surgery and was involved in brain tumor research.
