Amam took a gap year after graduating from undergrad to work as a dental assistant and manage his family’s convenience store.
Amam was born in Barcelona, Spain, and immigrated to the U.S. in 2001 at the age of 4. He comes from a Pakistani family and has lived his life moving throughout the Midwest. Amam spent most of his life growing up in the rural community of Keokuk, Iowa.
Amam participated in MHIRT (Minority Health-Disparities International Research Training) Internship in the summer of 2018 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Amam’s research project consisted of recording the association between tobacco usage and dental malocclusion in the patient population.
Amam also participated in SHPEP (Summer Health Professions Education Program) at the University of Iowa in 2017. In SHPEP, Amam gained clinical exposure and learned about the social determinants of health with a heightened emphasis on collaboration across health professions. Amam has been passionate about helping underrepresented students find their way to their respective programs. He has mentored students in orientation-based programs and held executive office positions in organizations that help students receive proper information on applying to medical, dental, and pharmacy programs.

Amanda is a bilingual (English/Spanish) graduate of the University of Utah (BS), Tufts University School of Medicine PA Program (MMs), and Butler University Doctorate of Medical Science program. She is currently an urgent care PA, but her ultimate career goal is to become a PA educator.
Amanda gained extensive EMS and EMS education experience prior to PA school. She has worked in occupational medicine/urgent care, rural medicine, outpatient cardiology, inpatient pediatric psychiatry, and COVID-19 clinical research. Amanda’s undergraduate degree is in Speech and Hearing Science, and she was originally planning to become a speech-language pathologist. Her plans changed during her junior year of college when she discovered (and immediately fell in love with) the PA profession.

Amanda is a Floridian who loves to ice skate and ski, but only on the green slopes.
Amanda majored in Nutritional Sciences and minored in Health Disparities in Society at the University of Florida. After receiving a 25 Total Science score on the DAT, with a score of 30 on the Organic Chemistry section, she was offered admission to several prestigious dental schools, including UCLA, USC, UPenn, and Harvard. She ultimately chose the latter and is currently pursuing her DMD there.
Some of Amanda’s most noteworthy experiences include working as an expanded functions dental assistant at a general dentistry practice and volunteering at the Florida Mission of Mercy and FreeD.O.M. Clinic. She also served as a research assistant in a clinical lab specializing in precision ketogenic therapy for patients with intractable epilepsy.
At HSDM, Amanda is an Admissions Ambassador who provides guided tours of the dental school campus and participates in Q&A panels for interviewees. Her role offers an insightful perspective on the traits dental schools are looking for in future candidates. It has also allowed her to give mock interviews and personal statement feedback to aspiring dental students.

During her gap year, she was the Hiring Manager for ScribeAmerica for seven varying medical specialties and managed and mentored 45 employees, most of whom were pre-med or pre-PA. As a pediatric neurosurgery PA transitioning to urology PA, she held several leadership roles in surgical safety research and child advocacy.

Andrew is completing his medical studies at The Ohio State University while simultaneously participating in a prestigious year-long research fellowship at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. Andrew has a rich academic background with a degree in Neuroscience and a minor in Mathematics from Pomona College. While at Pomona, Andrew displayed his leadership skills as the captain of the varsity football and baseball teams. He also held various leadership positions on campus and participated in neuroscience research through the David Prober lab at Caltech.
Andrew's gap year after graduation saw him gain more clinical and research experience. He scribed in an emergency department and worked at start-ups within two medical specialties: radiology and ophthalmology. As a medical student, Andrew discovered a new passion for orthopedics and orthopedic research, leading him to serve as president of the OSU American Medical Association chapter, president of the Honors and Professionalism Council, and a peer tutor. Andrew is a medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai pursuing a career in Anesthesiology. He has a startup valued at $12 million which focuses on providing affordable vision care across the US, has >20 peer-reviewed publications, and is looking to continue to help others in their medical careers.
Originally from the greater Pittsburgh area, Andrew went to public school all his life and attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he majored in computational chemistry with a focus in biology. He conducted research through the Department of Biomedical Informatics, where he published a paper in Scientific Reports on long non-coding RNA SNHG7 and its impact on breast cancer. He graduated in three years from Pitt and went straight to medical school at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. During his first year there, he joined multiple research labs focusing on large-data analysis and machine learning.
He also co-founded Retina Technologies Inc., a company aimed to disrupt vision care by leveraging virtual reality, retinal imaging, and machine learning onto a portable platform to provide affordable, accessible, and accurate vision screening across the country. He served as the CTO of the company, spearheading four clinical trials, submitting three provisional patents and one non-provisional PCT patent, and built both the hardware and software from the ground up. He has continued his involvement in both his research and the company throughout all four years of medical school and is applying to residency programs for Anesthesiology.

After finishing his undergraduate degree in computer science at UNC-Chapel Hill (Go Heels!), Anil attended the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Following dental school, he completed General Practice and Oral Medicine residencies. Afterward, he practiced in hospital, community health, and academic settings. Anil has served on the admissions committees at both Harvard and his residency program.
In addition to my dental training, Anil also completed a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and has technical certifications in Data Science and Business Analytics. In 2020, he transitioned out of teaching and patient care to pursue a career in Healthcare Analytics.
Anil feels that his experience applying to dental school was quite stressful and lonely, as he did not have any support in the form of a pre-dental advisor for guidance and advice. He looks forward to serving as a mentor, so students do not have to feel isolated during the application journey.

Anjali's initial career path led her to a healthcare media company where she coordinated educational conferences for hospital CEOs. Her career took a turn towards the non-profit sector with MEDLIFE, where she led volunteers in mobile medical clinics in medically underserved communities in rural Cusco, Peru.

Abhishek loves animals especially dogs and also enjoys playing tennis.
Having found his passion for medicine and biology early, he quickly got involved in a committed research position during his first week of undergrad at UC Davis where he soon become the Lead Undergraduate Researcher and supervised a group of other undergrads while studying the genetic associations of meiotic recombination in the murine model. While studying neural circuits, Archana worked at a syringe exchange in Ithaca, New York, where she witnessed firsthand the mechanics of court-based drug rehabilitation. Jay graduated from Saint Louis University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and an emphasis in Engineering Mathematics. While at Saint Louis University, he spent four years conducting research in the spheres of soft tissue engineering and microfluidics, in addition to founding the Engineering Health Collaborative, an organization focused on the development of low-cost medical devices for medically underserved countries. He was also a pre-medical fellow with the Atlantis Project in Athens, Greece during the summer and worked on a new entrepreneurial venture to develop a novel preventative medical device for catheter-associated urinary tract infections.
Later on, he became a Fulbright Scholar at the Medical University of Warsaw in Poland. While there, he spent two years teaching at the university level in the premedical sphere and was blessed with the opportunity to be a speaker on the stage of TEDx Warsaw. Neil Jairath is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical school, class of 2021. He graduated #1 in his class there, receiving the Charles and Phyllis Lowe Merit Scholarship (awarded to fourth-year medical students of highest academic standing), the Academic Achievement Award, and the Academic Recognition Award. Neil was also awarded the Paul DeWolf Award and Patrick John Niland Award, was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honors Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society, and graduated with Distinction in Research Honors. He was actively involved in leadership initiatives and interdisciplinary research, including the utilization of artificial intelligence as a means of augmented physician diagnosis and biostatistical projects and clinical research investigating various oncologic theories, especially pertaining to the intersection of immunology and oncology. He served as an interviewer and admissions representative for three years during his time at Michigan. Neil has 20+ published articles and has presented his team's work 30+ times at national and international conferences. He is pursuing a residency in dermatology at New York University starting July 2022, following an intern year at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego.
Prior to pursuing medicine, Neil attended The University of Notre Dame, where he studied medicine and computer science, with minors in philosophy and the AL/SC Honors Program. With a strong interest in traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, Onye's research has focused on the recovery process and the development of implantable devices that can aid in patients’ rehabilitation and improve their quality of life. During his time at Emory, Onye also explored the negative effects of stress, particularly racism, on the white matter architecture of the brain. Before medical school, he worked as a clinical trials coordinator in the neurology department at Vanderbilt Medical Center, further solidifying his passion for medicine, neurology, and research.
